Mechina

Ner Yisroel’s entry-level division provides its 250 talmidim with a well balanced educational program.

In addition to the high level lomdus of the be’iyun shiurim, two bekius programs instill hasmoda in the talmid while broadening his familiarity with different parts of Shas. Each grade completes one “bekius masechta” per year as part of the curriculum; in addition, there are special incentives that inspire many bochurim to voluntarily be mesayem the be’iyun masechta during off-hours.

Class sizes are kept below 25 to maximize individual attention. The highly dedicated rebbeim view themselves as much more than maggidei shiur; the close kesher they forge with their talmidim serves as a venue for mentoring with proper hadracha and chizuk. A rigorous, comprehensive limudei chol program features all the requisite courses, as well as exciting ‘electives’ in relevant subjects such as public speaking, Jewish history, and the like.

Brochure

We invite you to download and enjoy this brochure which gives a glimpse into Mechinas Ner Yisroel

Any Questions?

Please describe your campus.

We are fortunate to be located on the 90-acre Beren campus in suburban Baltimore County with our Rabbeim living on campus. There are basketball courts, baseball fields, football fields and ample areas for exercise and walking. The fields and courts have lights for night-time activity, as well. In addition, there is a 24-hour coin-operated laundry room, a canteen which is open during break times, and an ATM on campus.

Are Bochurim allowed to go off of the campus on their own?

Yes, during the day. However, there is a ground curfew after 7:30 PM.

Due to the large size of the Mechina, do boys get lost?

It’s true that we are a large high school, but the 9th, 10th, and 11th grades have shiurim of approximately 22 Bochurim, enabling the Rebbe to connect to all of his Talmidim. On top of that, every Friday night the Rebbe has his Bochurim over for an Oneg. The Menahel and Mashgiach also know and connect to each Bochur.

How often do the Mechina boys have vacation?

Aside from Succos, Pesach and summer vacation, we have a weekend off approximately every 4-5 weeks. In between each off-Shabbos, 9th and 10th grade local Bochurim are allowed to spend a Shabbos with their immediate family.

Are out-of-town Bochurim allowed to visit a Baltimore family on the local off-Shabbos?

No, we feel the well-being of the out-of-town Bochurim is better served by staying in the Mechina for that Shabbos.

Please tell me about your General Studies department.

We pride ourselves on our very strong Secular Program, which rates as one of the best among Yeshiva high schools. Besides the required credits, we offer a variety of electives that capture the imagination of the boys and also give them real life skills, such as Public Speaking, Business Ethics, Practical Finance, to name a few.

Are Bochurim allowed to have cell phones?

We do not allow smartphones under any circumstances. We do, however, have a special plan that allows the Bochurim to have preapproved basic phones. Details of this plan are provided to the Bochurim when they enroll in the Mechina.

Does the Mechina have a dress code?

Yes, we expect our Talmidim to dress as Bnei Torah. A full description of our dress code can be found in the Rules & Regulations which is mailed annually to all Bochurim.

What does the Mechina do if a Bochur is not feeling well?

If a boy is unwell, a senior staff member will check on him.  Moreover, there is a physician residing on campus with office hours every evening, and there are three registered nurses living on campus. When necessary, a local pharmacy will deliver prescriptions to a staff member.

Please be aware that it is the responsibility of the parent to ensure that their insurance will cover care in Maryland.
